The Planisium Estate is in Volturino, a delightful mountain village on the border between Campania, Molise and Puglia. The name of the village comes from Volturnus, the name given by the ancient Romans to the strong, hot wind typical of this area. It was one of five hamlets created on the ridge of the Daunian Mountains to protect the town of Montecorvino, which has since disappeared, against invaders from Samnium and Abruzzo. Of the other four, only their names have survived, now used for the districts or contrade in Volturino: Monte Sambuco, La Umara, Santa Lucia, and Tortorano.

Our winery nestles in the beautiful landscape of the Daunian Mountains, near the small village of Volturino, in the province of Foggia. From here, we enjoy a picturesque panorama of steep valleys and rolling hills full of old vines native to Puglia and centuries-old olive groves. A scenario much loved by the many tourists who come to visit and take part in the tasting sessions and cellar visits that we organise periodically.

Tenuta Planisium nasce a Volturino, un incantevole borgo di montagna al confine tra Campania, Molise e Puglia. Il nome del paese trae origine da Volturnus, termine con il quale gli antichi Romani indicavano il vento forte e caldo tipico di questa zona. Era uno dei cinque casali creati sullo schienale dei Monti Dauni, a protezione della città scomparsa di Montecorvino contro le invasioni dal Sannio e dagli Abruzzi. Degli altri quattro si conservano solo i nomi che definiscono le contrade di Volturino: Monte Sambuco, La Umara, Santa Lucia, Tortorano.

  La cantina è immersa nello splendido paesaggio del Subappennino Dauno, vicino al piccolo borgo di Volturino, in provincia di Foggia. Da qui è possibile ammirare un incantevole panorama fatto di ripide vallate e dolci colline ricche di vecchi vitigni pugliesi e centenari oliveti. Uno scenario molto amato dai tanti turisti, che possono visitare la cantina e sorseggiare un buon vino.
